10 years of work in the arts. 10 years of the artistwin deufert&plischke. 10 years of closest kinship and proximity. 10 years in which live and work got inseparable. 10 years of being broke.
March 2001: an encounter, an exchange of woolen tights, an intimate glance, an immediate trust for the upcoming uncertainty. We wanted to stop with what we were, where we were, a restart: to jump in at the uneconomic deep end, to get out of the institutions, out of well functioning production methods. At that point some broke their friendships with us. Our basis was blind trust into the future and the necessary mistrust towards what each of the twin brought along. No ostensible cordiality, no unity for all means! In this conflict our first works were developed. An activistic phase in Frankfurt, first networks, then we moved into the Frankfurter Küche. With Adorno at the turntables in the clubs we sold underpants on which one could read the imprint: HAT. The first group performance: "As you like it" ... no Shakespeare, but plenty of Lacan. What you (whish to) see is (never) what you get. Is this also true for the theatre? Can the desire machine be operated in 3-D? You never look at me from the place from which I see you. After this first rush ... exhaustion. "InExHaustible" where the Anti-Oedipus of Deleuze and Guattari meets Hannibal the cannibal.
How did we manage? Without friends that helped then - and still do today - we would have had no chance, it would have ended in talk. "Continuity today, where it is necessary, is a demonstration of disinterestedness" writes John Cage in his Lecture on Nothing.
Continuity is the necessity that keeps us together. The only stability in the space of uncertainties, and the necessary disinterestedness in ones own effect, in what could be. Sofia 2003: the first work in Bulgaria. We stage a play with friends in Bulgarian. Premiere in Sofia: who can not build a normal airport, builds a conceptual airport. We look for new formats. Slides, texts, movement: reflection in action. Helter-skelter we move to Leipzig and dive into the project artistwin. Slowly we create a body with two heads, or a head with two bodies, or a creature of savoir vivre.
2005: the first reside
ncy. A temporary freedom. An invitation to Norway by Sven Åge Birkeland to Bergen and the Lofote Islands. There we created "Directory: Songs of Love and War", our last twin duet for the present. Diane Arbus takes us by her hand and guides us through the rough scandinavian landscape. "What is left after, what one isn't, is taken away, is what one is". What ties us together without the need of homogenization? We continue to search for an artistic form of language and movement that doesn't immediately produce an image, but realms of experience, that can not be anticipated.
